LUMIN Schools Receives Grant Valued at $100,000 to Fund VR Career Exploration

LUMIN Schools, a local system of seven schools serving grades K-8 greater Milwaukee-area, was one of the recipients of this year’s CareerViewXR Production Grant. This funding will allow LUMIN to have access to CareerViewXR’s immersive career exploration platform during the 2024-2025 school year, bringing the job site to the classroom through web-based tours and companion virtual reality (VR) videos.

How is 360° media better than regular video/photography?

360° media makes a unique impact over traditional pictures and videos. Individuals from anywhere, at any time, can see the action from a first-person view and get into areas that you’d usually not be able to, all from the comfort of their own space. Can you film in small spaces? Our video and microphone equipment is quite compact and usable in almost any space. Anywhere you can fit a single tripod— we can capture from. Do you travel to other states? Yes, we can travel wherever your production is located! As long as we have proper time to plan, we are definitely open to traveling and seeing new parts of the country! Do I own the right to my content? Yes, you get exclusive rights to your 360° content, unless you have agreed to otherwise in the contract (Ex. agreed to allow the content to be featured on the CareerViewXR™ platform).

Can you film in small spaces?

Where can I use my videos/tours?

We recommend using 360° media on social media, websites, and in headsets! They can also create quite a splash at events as well. One cool way to show off your videos, pictures, or virtual tour is by creating a QR code to add to print media.

How long can I use my videos/tours?

Forever! You are free to use your 360° media for years to come. We do charge a yearly hosting fee for virtual tours to help cover the costs of the server upkeep.

Do I need a VR headset to use 360° media?

No, a VR headset is not necessary, but we do recommend trying it out! 360° photos, videos, and tours are viewable on other technology that you already own.

Do you have any recommendations for VR headsets?

We have a few different recommendations for VR headsets: Oculus Quest 2 (Now known as the Meta Quest 2), HTC Vive Focus 3, HTC Vive Focus Plus, Pico G2 4K. Looking to purchase? Check out our tech partner Bytespeed for your headset needs.
