VR Holiday News & Deals

Holiday deal hunters rejoice! There are exciting deals to be found on VR headsets and experiences this year. New headsets models are also currently available or on the very near horizon if you’re looking for something new and shiny! Let’s jump into some of our findings.

Have you been eyeing the popular Meta Quest 2? Now may be the best time to buy after the price hike we saw a few months ago. WalmartAmazonBest Buy and other major retailers have a special headset bundle listed for $349.99, $50 cheaper than usual for the 128GB version. This bundle includes a copy of Beat Saber and Resident Evil 4 (an added $70 value). Retailers have a similar bundle featuring the 256GB version of the headset, Beat Saber, and Resident Evil 4 available for $429.

If you’re looking to splurge rather than save, perhaps the new, high-end Meta Quest Pro is the perfect fit for you. Coming in at $1,499, this headset strives to have users trying out mixed reality as well as virtual reality. The controllers paired with this device also set it apart from the established Meta Quest 2. The Pro Controllers give haptic feedback to users’ hands and allows them to make finer control movements than lower-end controllers. Our team has yet to have any experience with this headset, but we would like to try it out to see how it compares to its predecessors.

Looking for a new experience to check out as the winter comes in full force? The sleeper hit Among Us recently got brought into the world of VR just in time for winter break. It rings up at an affordable $10 on Steam. Steam is also currently running sales on many hit games, including popular VR titles. Check out the “Discounted” tab when visiting their VR titles section. HTC Vive’s Viveport platform is offering a Black Friday discount of up to 77% off subscriptions too. Viveport is a reoccurring subscription that grants subscribers access to a growing library of VR experiences and games; it’s quite similar to subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. The VR-lover in your life would probably enjoy a new experience or subscription to use with the headset they already own this holiday season!

Are you a PlayStation fan that’s looking to dive into virtual reality for the first time or upgrade your current VR setup? The PlayStation VR bundle that includes a digital copy of Marvel’s Iron Man VR game is available from multiple retailers for $199. While its release will be after the holiday season, registrations for preorders are currently open for PlayStation VR 2. Sony will be releasing the headset in late February 2023 for $550. Keep in mind that the PlayStation VR and PlayStation VR2 headsets both require a PlayStation to be used.

Another brand is going to be launching something brand-new very soon, and we’re intrigued. HTC Vive has been teasing mere sections of their newest headset for months on social media. It’s rumored to be a small headset, potentially with an emphasis on XR. While we don’t know any details like price point or specs yet, we are excitedly waiting for the reveal!

We hope these highlights help you with your holiday gift shopping this year, even if it ends up being a gift for yourself. We don’t judge! Happy holiday hunting everyone!
